Fencing

The fencing tournament, organized by the Spanish Fencing Federation, includes the modalities of Standing Fencing, Wheelchair Fencing, and Blind Fencing. Teams, consisting of one athlete from each modality, will compete in a direct elimination system to determine the winner.

Inclusive Fencing Rules

Main Federations

Organization: This tournament is organized under the rules of the Real Spanish Fencing Federation.(REFF)

Participating Athletes

Total Athletes: 12 athletes (6 women and 6 men).

Composition:

  • Fencing on Foot: 4 athletes (2 women and 2 men).
  • Blind Fencing: 4 athletes (2 women and 2 men).
  • Wheelchair Fencing: 4 athletes (2 women and 2 men).

Competitions - Events

Competition Format:

Competitions will be held by teams, each consisting of one athlete from each of the three modalities (Fencing on Foot, Wheelchair Fencing, Blind Fencing).

  • Teams: 2 teams will be formed, each consisting of one athlete from each modality.
  • Participant Distribution:
    • Athletes will be distributed into teams and categories based on their ranking in the national ranking.
  • Knockout Round:
    • Prior to the start of the activity, a knockout round bracket will be created with the distribution of participants in each team.
    • There will be 2 semifinal matches. The winners will play the final and the losers will compete for the third and fourth places.

Knockout Format:

  • Assault Structure:
    • Each match will consist of assaults in each of the modalities (on foot, in a wheelchair, and blind).
    • Assaults will be contested to 5 touches per relay or 3 minutes per match, whichever comes first.
  • Order of Assaults:
    • Fencing on Foot
    • Blind Fencing
    • Wheelchair Fencing
    • Wheelchair Fencing
    • Blind Fencing
    • Fencing on Foot
    • The order of the assaults may be modified as deemed necessary to ensure the best integration of the athletes and optimize the competition. It is important to note that blind fencing athletes will compete exclusively with athletes without disabilities.
  • The estimated time for each match will be approximately 30 minutes. The competition will last a maximum of 2 hours.

Scoring

Scoring System:

  • The standard scoring system for each fencing modality will be applied.
  • Each team will receive points based on the sum of the results obtained by its members in the assaults.

Final Classification:

  • Teams will be ranked based on their performance in the matches.
  • Winner: The team with the most victories at the end of the knockout round will be declared the winner.
  • Second and Third Place: Teams that lose in the semifinals will compete for third place, and the team with the second highest number of victories will be declared the runner-up.

Awards

Medals:

  • Gold Medal: Awarded to the winning team of the tournament.
  • Silver Medal: Awarded to the team that finishes in second place.
  • Bronze Medal: Awarded to the team that finishes in third place.
