Badminton

In Tokyo 2020 badminton was a Paralympic sport for the first time. In Barcelona'92 it was declared as an Olympic sport. The Inclusive Games unite two athletes with disabilities and two without them in a mixed competition that will not disappoint.

Inclusive Badminton Regulations

Main Federations

Organization: The tournament is organized under the regulations of the Spanish Badminton Federation (FESBA) and the Spanish Federation of Sports for the Deaf (FEDS).

Participating Athletes

Number of Players:

  • 4 athletes in total: 2 athletes with disabilities and 2 athletes without disabilities.
  • Teams: Two teams will be formed, each consisting of one athlete with a disability and one athlete without a disability.

Competitions - Events

Competition Format:

  • Mixed Doubles Competition: Each team will consist of one athlete with a disability and one athlete without a disability.
  • Adaptations: Necessary adaptations will be made according to the individual characteristics of the participating athletes. These adaptations may include:
    • Court Dimensions: Adjustments in the court size, such as reducing the length or width, depending on the needs of the athletes with disabilities.
    • Information Provided to the Athlete: Additional information may be provided to athletes with disabilities, such as visual, auditory, or tactile cues according to their specific needs.
    • Game Interruptions: Additional breaks during the game may be allowed if necessary to accommodate the athletes' needs, such as adjusting equipment or rest.

Scoring

Scoring System:

  • Regulation: The official badminton scoring system as stipulated in FESBA rules will be applied.
  • The matches will be played as best of three sets, as is customary in badminton doubles competitions, with necessary adaptations to ensure fairness and inclusion.

Awards and Recognition

Medals:

  • Gold Medal: Will be awarded to the winning team of the tournament.
  • Silver Medal: Will be awarded to the team that finishes in second place.
